Panorex X-Rays

A panorex is an incredibly useful two-dimensional dental x-ray that displays both the upper and lower jaws and teeth in the same film.

Panorex films are used regularly for:

  • Orthodontic assessments
  • Diagnosis of wisdom teeth impaction
  • Diagnosis of advanced periodontal disease
  • Assess the TMJ, or jaw joint
  • Detecting oral cancer

During the x-ray, you will be asked to bite down on a special tool that assists the operator in positioning your head in the correct position. You will be asked to stay very still while the panorex machine travels around the outside of your head, for approximately 20 seconds. The image is displayed digitally on a computer.

Dr. Mawyer may recommend a panorex every five years or whenever necessary for your specific situation.
